  8. EMERI(TM) came about after many months of frustration while using our Windows
  9. cardfiles.  The "Cardfile" application that comes with Windows is very useful
  10. for keeping track of phone numbers and addresses.  Using Cardfile is much more
  11. convenient than managing physical business card collections and/or messy
  12. written lists.

  14. Unfortunately, we are considered "part-time Windows users" in that we drop in
  15. and out of Windows all day long, using Windows for some things, and dropping
  16. back to DOS for others.  We believe that most "Windows users" are actually
  17. "part-time Windows users."

  19. Throughout the course of an average day, Murphy's Law dictates that whenever a
  20. phone number is needed, we'll be staring at a DOS prompt.  Due to the large
  21. number of fonts, groups, network drivers, and other items that Windows must
  22. load up on our machines, it quickly became a hassle to boot up Windows every
  23. time a phone number was needed.  Of course, there was no such thing as
  24. "quickly" getting a phone number!

  26. At one point we pondered just how convenient it would be to have a DOS program
  27. which could be used to quickly and easily access our cardfiles from DOS,
